Here we will learn about the process of opening a Dhan demat and trading account. There is no separate process for each of the accounts, they are processed simultaneously.

The process starts on the Dhan website or mobile app, where the company has provided a simple and well-sorted account opening form.

1. Steps for Online Account Opening Process:

  • Go to the Dhan website or download Dhan Mobile App.
  • Click on the Open Demat Account tab on the home page.
  • Verify the mobile number and email address by entering the OTP received.
  • Set a 6-digit pin code for your account.
  • If you have a referral code, enter it.
  • For Documentation and KYC process submit
    1. Pan Card (Mandatory) and fill in the PAN details.
    2. For address proof submit either Adhar, Driving License, or Passport.
    3. Take a live selfie or upload your picture.
    4. Upload the signature picture.
  • For account declaration, you need to add your annual income, profession and trading experience.
  • If you want to activate Future & Option, you can upload the income proofs or skip this step.
  • Enter the Bank account details like IFSC code and account number.
  • Dhan will send you Rs 1 to verify your bank account.
  • On the E-sign page, Enter the Adhar number and verify it by the OTP sent on your mobile number.
  • You can set a password for your Dhan account.
  • Account opening process is completed at your end.
  • Dhan Team will verify and process your KYC.
  • The Dhan team will email you the account opening details and login details.

2. Steps for Non Individual Account Opening (Offline)

  • The investor must send an email to onboarding@dhan.co with the information of his or her interest in opening a Demat and Trading account. (For example, HUF, Corporate, Partnership Firm, LLP, and Trust).
  • The Dhan onboarding team will provide a checklist for sharing soft copies of documents through email for Demat and Trading account opening verification.
  • Once the document verification is completed, the Dhan team will send an email with a pre-filled account opening form.
  • The investor must take a printout of the prefilled forms and validated supporting documents, which must be stamped and signed by the Authorized Signatories in accordance with the Board Resolution.
  • After stamping and signing, the investor must provide a soft copy of the prefilled and verified documents to onboarding@dhan.co.
  • After receiving an email confirmation from Team Dhan, the investor must send the signed and stamped AOF along with the supporting documents by courier to the head office for further processing.
  • For tracking purposes, the investor must send information about the shipment by email.
  • After receiving the documents at the Head Office, the trading and demat accounts will be opened within 24-48 working hours.
  • After account opening, the Dhan team will send an email with account opening information and login credentials.

Dhan facilitates account opening for non-individuals through an offline process. Dhan primarily assists with opening corporate and HUF accounts. Dhan Account Closure


Closing the Dhan account is done in a few steps and the account will be permanently closed.

To download the Dhan account closure form, follow the steps below:

  1. Open Dhan website
  2. Click on Download Center
  3. Open Account Closure Form

Customers must fill out a Dhan Closure Form to close their accounts.

As of now, the account closure form only needs to be submitted in physical form, there is no online option.

Before you start closing your demat and trading account, make sure your dues are cleared. Transfer all holdings to another account before closing the account.

The company does not charge any fees for account closing and has Rs.0 AMC lifetime, you can keep the account active without paying AMC.
