Invest money over time. It is impossible to pick the perfect entry point when buying a stock. Therefore, you should follow the rule of threes. If you are going to invest money in a company, you should buy it three times about six months apart. This will give you the average price of the stock over that 18-month time span. This way if the stock went up, you made money. If it went down, then you have created a "Rupee Cost Average" (essentially an average price) that is much closer to the current stock price than if you had bought your stock in that company all at once.
Diversify your portfolio over different sectors. Pick different sectors. If any one sector under performs, you have the rest of your portfolio to pick up the slack. You must not keep all your eggs in one basket if you want to invest safely your money.
Be fearful when others are brave and be brave when others are fearful!
Providing for an adequate margin of safety also maximises safe investing. This can be achieved by buying a stock below its calculated intrinsic value.
"It's not risky to buy securities at a fraction of what they're worth.” - Warren Buffett
A margin of safety has nothing to do with stock volatility. But stock price volatility may create a margin of safety.
Safe investing can mean holding a lot of cash when markets overheat.
While no one rings a bell to signify the top of the market, value investors have the means to better understand when it is time to start moving to cash. They are also cushioned by a margin of safety even if they are still partly invested.

what is your opinion about the stock recos in Outlook money. The recos are appear to be fine. Some of their recos like Emami have given multiple returns. I think they are relying more on the value theme. have you tracked them. I think they can be compared with MF schemes like HDFC top 200 etc which have performed well in the long term.
