dear srini ,
what i feel is when you apply to IPO one major benefit is you get shares of company at less price .it matters more with org like mindtree.
other benefit you have is the support level for share value .now even market is volatile share value of idea, pfc are not trading below their offer price .
One need to take wise decision before applying for IPO.When it comes to secondary market ,there are many factors that comes into play ... You have to wait for long in some scripts and not major chances of getting huge profit looking at volatility of market.
Others plz post your view on this

I have been investing in IPOs in recent times. I would suggest retail investors this: It does nto make sense to apply for IPOs. You need to invest 100,000 for good IPOs (e.g Mindtree) and still may not get it. The money remains blocked and you lose interest. Add to this the anxiety of allocation, refund etc. Rather buy it on listing even if there is a premium of 20%.

Stock market and fund management experts - pls. give your thoughts on this.

ICRA has recd 0.41 times subscription at the end of its first day - 20th March. This issue is going to be oversibscribed heavily, as the issue size is not very big. In other words, nobody will get more than 20 shares per application (ie - if your name is drawn in the lottery)

Hi Friends,
I went through various and almost everybody is recommended this IPO to apply on cut of price.

1. MoneyControl gave it 5* rating, which means excellent for short as well as long team. Here are there comments:
"The stock looks attractive in comparison to peer group. Investors rather than looking for listing gains should look at the IPO as a good long term bet as the company is expected to do extremely well going forward due to rising demand for rating & consulting services with limited competition in the industry."

2. B&K Securities (Tejas Mehta): Strongly recommend to subscribe to this issue. They say ICRA will become second listed entity in credit rating service after CRISIL. CRISIL is market leader with highest number of clients followed by ICRA. However the difference between number of clients and market share is very minimal for ICRA when compared with CRISIL. CRISIL market share is 34% in compare to ICRA’s 32%. ICRA is equally competitive to CRISIL for other two players in the market – CARE and FITCH. Hence ICRA should trade close to CRISIL. CRISIL is currently trading at 23.5x of CY06 earning. ICRA is available at 18.2x FY07E earnings at upper band of the issue. B&K Securities expect the gap in earning to be narrowed down after the listing of ICRA.

3. CM gave rating 51, which is among the best rates they gave to any IPO in recent time. Other then Idea which was rated at 51, only MindTree & Tech Mahindra was give 53 in last two years.

My personal understanding is, as very few players are in this business and solid research background will help ICRA to become a strong player…It’s a good short term as well as long term bet.

This is going to be a good issue. But, the IPO size is very small and surely it will get huge subscription. Needless to say, the Allocation will be bases on Lottary!!!!! Even for guys who will apply for full, the allocation will be on lottary. Hence changes of getting even after appling is very very less. But, if got you can expect good returns!!!!!!!!

icra is a samll offering . it can be compared to its peer
crisil which is the best rating agency .
secondly rakesh jhunjunwala has a big stake in crisil .
valuation wise icra offering is very cheap at 335/ ,
promoted by moody*s investor service and govt agencies like ifci ,sbi .
go for the issue irrespective of the market

The ratings business accounted for about 55 per cent of revenues, with businesses such as consulting (17 per cent), outsourcing (5 per cent) and information services (2 per cent) chipping in with the balance. The rating business, however, is the key profit driver.
IT Consultancy will become more with the IT expanding in India. Only 2 players and ICRA has good diversification, EPS 18.
As far as IFCI and SBI offloading, it should not matter. Promotors too offload and invest the earnings in other ventures and buy again.
Good for 10-15 % listing gains or for long term. Invest at cut off.
CRISIL has EPS of around 24, the only competitior, though doulble in worth, but ICRA has potential to touch 21 in llisting and grow further. So 15-20 % is not gone for listings gain. I will recommend it for long term.
Any other views are welcome

This is answer given by Vice Chairman of ICRA, PK Choudhury for Q.why IFCI, SBI and UTI are looking to exit at this point of time?
:-At this stage, what you feel is the existing shareholders, particularly the large shareholders, who have invested money long back, they thought that they need to have an exit option, particularly SU-UTI because their scheme is going to close.

So at the same time they felt that the market dynamics is what can give them the good price indication. The price discovery to IPO route was possibly the best and most optimum route and that’s why they have selected this option
