Cutoff price Query//
Does Cutoff price needs to be tick(selected) for applying in SME IPO retail application Or it is only for Mainline IPO retail application ( ** in some IPO’s Employee & Shareholder quota < 2 lakh) ?
This confusion sparks due to trends in ipo subscription data. In mainline IPO mostly retails applications are filled with Cutoff price however it’s not the same with SME Retail applications.
For detailed explanation i have took NSE Subscription data of last 5 Mainline & SME IPO’s(**BSE subscription data of past ipo’s was not available so I just pick the NSE one however its almost same pattern in both and for SME IPO’s only Book Built Issue are picked as Fixed Price Issue doesn’t requires Cut-off)
S. No. Mainline IPO Retail (No. of Shares BID For) Cutoff Price bids
1 Vibhor Steel Tubes Limited IPO: 155834613(79.82%) 39412791(20.18%)
2 Entero Healthcare Solutions Limited IPO: 870353(89.98%) 97009(10.02%)
3 Capital Small Finance Bank Limited IPO: 4499328(86.37%) 710400(13.63%)
4 Jana Small Finance Bank Limited IPO: 8103960(79.59%) 2077920(20.41%)
5 Rashi Peripherals Limited IPO: 33109536(85.35%) 5683632(14.65%)
Total: 202417790(80.84%) 47981752(19.16%)
Here the data shows that in Mainline IPO Retail applications around ~80% are submitted at Cutoff price and about ~20% are submitted at Manul price band.
S. No. SME IPO Retail (No. of Shares BID For) Cutoff Price bids
1 Wise Travel India Limited: 121003000(53.39%) 105646000(46.61%)
2 Alpex Solar Limited: 359416800(47.39%) 398974800(52.61%)
3 Baweja Studios Limited: 5252800(54.75%) 4341600(45.25%)
4 Megatherm Induction Limited: 165781200(49.82%) 166983600(50.18%)
5 Fonebox Retail Limited: 420570000(48.92%) 439164000(51.08%)
Total: 1072023800(49.02%) 1115110000(50.98%)
However, for SME IPO Retail applications around ~49% are submitted at Cutoff price and about ~51% are submitted at Manul price band.
Lack of IPO’s rules knowledge might be one of the reasons but typically the SME Retails investor are much more likely to be financially aware than that of Mainline Retail Investor due to SME big ticket size for retail application; As one can apply an 15K application just to try their luck just because they heard some rummer (like tata tech. IPO) even when they have no idea about how IPO application work. But that’s not the case with SME, as it’s retail application is about 1-1.5 Lakh.
I have came to below 2 conclusion points:
• In SME IPO’s LM wants to artificially create the demand by inflating the subscription data to attract more retailers. As with lower price band they can apply more no. of application as compared to Cutoff price.
• 2nd conclusion is; Cutoff works only in Retail of Mainline IPO’s. For SME we have to manually fill the upper prise band like we do in HNI category
@M Gupta @Tejas Pandya @DEVBULL @MVP @GrayIsTheNewBlack @PLAZA @newgen consultancy @Pbdrajkot @MuStrFc I request all the Veterans to share their view as many to them might have got the SME Retail allotment and have much more clarity about how this market plays.
Thank you in advance. I really appreciate your efforts !
