Investor Category

This classifies investors in an IPO based on their type and investment size - usually as Retail Investors, QIBs (institutions), and NIIs (HNIs & others).

Investor category refers to the classification of investors based on their eligibility and investment capacity in an IPO or public offering. There are typically three categories:

  1. Retail Investors: Individuals investing up to a specified limit, usually a small amount. They participate directly in the market and often receive a priority allocation in IPOs.
  2. Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs): Institutional investors such as mutual funds, insurance companies, and pension funds. They are eligible to invest in larger quantities and have more stringent financial criteria.
  3. Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs): Investors who do not fall under the QIB category but can invest larger amounts than retail investors. They include HNIs (High Net-worth Individuals).
