A 3-in-1 NRI account can be opened by:
- Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) – Indian citizens living abroad for work, business, or residency.
- Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) – Foreign citizens of Indian origin holding a valid PIO card. (Note: PIO cards are now merged with OCI cards.)
- Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) – Foreign citizens with OCI status who want to invest in Indian markets.
Eligibility Criteria to Open a 3-in-1 NRI Account
- Must be an NRI, PIO, or OCI as per RBI & FEMA regulations.
- Must have an NRE/NRO bank account with the respective bank.
- Must complete KYC (Know Your Customer) verification, including PAN card, passport, visa, and overseas address proof.
- For NRE accounts, RBI PIS (Portfolio Investment Scheme) approval is required to trade in equities.
- Cannot be a resident Indian – Only NRIs, PIOs, and OCIs are eligible.
