The company planning an IPO has appointed a SEBI-registered Merchant Banker to manage, coordinate and execute its IPO. The company evaluates merchant bankers based on their IPO experience, track record of past IPOs, sector expertise, distribution network and institutional reach. The appointment is made before filing the Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with SEBI. The appointed merchant bankers act as a lead manager to the IPO in book-building IPOs; they are called Book Running Lead Managers (BRLMs).
