Which stocks are eligible for margin trading?

  • Approved by Exchanges:

    • Only stocks from NSE’s and BSE’s approved list can be traded under MTF.
    • These stocks are usually from NSE’s F&O segment or part of NIFTY 500 or S&P BSE 500 indices.
  • Liquidity & Volatility:

    • Highly liquid stocks with lower volatility are preferred.
    • Stocks with low trading volumes or high volatility are excluded.
  • Haircut & LTV Ratio:

    • Each eligible stock has a predefined haircut (typically 20%-50%), reducing the available effective margin.
    • Brokers provide margin based on each stock's Loan-to-Value(LTV) ratio.
  • Restrictions on Penny Stocks & ASM/GSM Stocks:

    • Stocks under ASM (Additional Surveillance Measures) and GSM (Graded Surveillance Measure) are not eligible.
    • Penny stocks and highly speculative stocks are excluded.
  • Broker-Specific List:

    • Different brokers have approved stock lists, which may change periodically based on risk assessment and market conditions.

    How to Check Eligible Stocks?

    • Visit your broker's website or MTF/MAS section.
