What is shareholder category in IPO?

The shareholder category in an IPO refers to a special reservation of shares for existing shareholders of the group company (like a parent company).

If you are the shareholder of the group/parent company as on record date as specified by the issuer company, you can apply in ‘shareholder’ category of the IPO. Not all IPOs have this category. The offer documents specify the information on the shareholder reservation rules, eligibility criteria, bid limits and allocation criteria.
