How to sell IPO shares on listing day during special pre-open time between 9:00AM to 9:45 AM?

BSE and NSE allow a special pre-open trading session for IPO shares on listing day (only first day of their trading). The pre-open session last for 45 minutes (9:00AM to 9:45 AM) during which orders can be entered, modified and cancelled.

Steps to sell IPO shares in pre-open market on the day of listing:

  1. Call broker or go online and place the sell order with the price at which you would like to sell.
  2. If listing price is equal or higher than the price you order to sell in pre-open; your shares are sold at the listing price.
  3. If listing price is lower than your sell order price in pre-open market, your order will be cancelled.

I have tried to sell ipo shares on groww app during preopen session but there shows you can't place sale order in this time.what is this?

lets assume i Gave my Selling price in Pre-open trading session of IPO as Rs 500 but Share Got Listed as Rs 800 .

In this Case What will be My Selling Price of IPO - Listed Price or Selling Price which i Gave in Pre-Open Session.

Your sell price will be rs. 800 at opening. You put the limit order means u get minimum 500 and above .Simple

Excellent and useful feedback. Instead of watching the price to open after prebid time to sell in case of a unfavorably subscribed ipo in order to limit losses, this ore-bid window can be exploited if one gets all shares one applied for. Cutting losses is equally a gainful proposition instead of remaining sucked in a bad ipo for a longer period. A bad decision needs a quicker surgical action to remain in balance.
