Brokerage Charges List

Securities Transaction Tax (STT): This is a tax you pay when you sell stocks on the same day you buy them (intraday) or when you trade in derivatives (like futures and options). For regular stock buying and selling, it's only applied when you sell. No STT is applicable on bonds, foreign exchange, and mutual funds.

Transaction Charges (Exchange Turnover Charges): This is a fee charged by stock exchanges for using their trading platform. The transaction fee is a combination of two charges.

Transaction charge = Exchange Turnover Charges + Clearing Charges.

Goods and Services Tax (GST): GST is a tax imposed by the Indian government on various services provided within the country. When it comes to trading, it's 18% of the total brokerage fees and transaction charges.

SEBI Charges: SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) charges a fee for all stock transactions, except for debt securities.

Stamp Duty: This is a tax collected by stockbrokers, clearing companies, or custodians when you trade in securities. The money collected as stamp duty goes to the respective states.

Break-even (per share): The break-even point in share trading is the price at which the net gain or net loss is 0 after paying the brokerage and taxes for both buying and selling and other expenses. It's the point where you cover all your costs.

So, all these terms are essentially about the various fees and taxes you might encounter when you buy or sell stocks or other financial instruments in India. Understanding them can help you calculate your total expenses and break-even points when trading.
